See inside every engine

Build an engine. Run it, break it, tear it down.

AutoMotive3D puts fourteen real engines in 3D, part by part. Build one on the stand, run it on the dyno, and break it on purpose to see what fails first.

For apprentices, instructors and anyone who wants to know what is going on under the valve cover.

Android testing takes three steps, all on one page. On iPhone, iPad, Chromebook or a computer, run it in the browser. Teaching with it?

Failure simulation

An engine you can take apart without turning a bolt

Every part sits where it really goes, belongs to a real subsystem, and does what it really does when it fails.

Build it on the stand

Start from a bare block. Every part goes on in the order it really does, and the stand shows what fits next.

Every part, every system

Double-tap a part to isolate it, or pick a whole system: heads and valvetrain, induction, cooling, charging, ignition, fuel and more.

Explode and tear down

One slider takes the engine from assembled to laid out, so you can see how everything goes together.

Dyno and Arena

Run your build on the dyno for a power and torque curve, then put it up against another engine and settle it on the numbers.

Design your own motor

Set bore, stroke, compression and induction, and the app builds the engine with its own dyno curve and fault profile.

Real parts

Swap parts and watch the model change. Catalog parts carry the maker’s name, with no sponsorship or endorsement implied.

Failure Understanding Simulation Engine

See what happens when it breaks, not just when it runs.

Inject a fault and the parts it touches light up, with a plain-English explanation of what broke, why, the symptoms, and the fix.

Push a build too far and F.U.S.E. lets it go: 87 octane on 14 psi of boost burns No. 7’s exhaust valve, time slows, and the camera goes straight to it.

  • Nine faults: blown head gasket, low compression, loose head bolts, worn rod bearings, a stretched timing chain and more.
  • The code a scan tool would show: faults that set a code display it, like P0301 or P0171.
  • Severity: normal, warning and critical, on every engine in the roster.
  • In 3D: the affected parts pulse, glow and highlight while the rest fades back.

A blown 383, and where it went wrong

An engine half built on the stand, the next parts shown as glowing ghosts

On the stand

Ten of twenty-nine parts on, the next ones shown where they go.

The engine pulled apart in 3D: covers, heads, intake, block, crank, cam and accessories separated in space

Pulled apart

Heads, pistons, rods, crank, cam and block, laid out in space.

F.U.S.E. failure moment: the engine ghosted back and the valvetrain lit, with number seven exhaust valve burned

Let go

F.U.S.E. finds the burned valve and takes you straight to it.
